Pastor George C. Gilbert, Sr. was born in Gretna VA, and is the eldest son of George Kelly and Mamie Odessa Gilbert.  Pastor Gilbert received his education in the Pittsylvania County (VA) Public Schools, and after moving to Washington, D.C. in 1961, continued his education in the D.C. Public Schools graduating from Kramer Junior High and Anacostia Senior High Schools.
 
Pastor Gilbert matriculated at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA majoring in Business Administration, and George Washington University, Washington, D.C.  He graduated from the Washington Baptist Seminary in 1978, and the Richmond Virginia Seminary in 1983 earning a Bachelor if Theology and Bachelor of Arts Degrees.  Pastor Gilbert has done postgraduate studies at the Washington Bible College in Lanham, MD.  He also attended Howard University School of Divinity where he earned a Master of Divinity degree in 1992, and was the recipient of The Fund For Theological Education, Inc. scholarship.  Pastor Gilbert is listed in the 1992-1993 publication of the The Marquis Who's Who In Religion.
 
At an early age Pastor Gilbert was baptized and joined the Elba Baptist Church in Gretna VA.  In November 1969 he joined the Central Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. where he held such positions as the Church and Pastor's secretary; member of the Church Board of Directors; Deacon; Chairman of the Board of Education; Assistant to the Pastor.
 
Pastor Gilbert preached his initial sermon on March 31, 1974, and was ordained to the gospel ministry as Assistant Pastor by the Central Baptist Church. 
 
Pastor Gilbert is a former president of the Baptist Minister's Conference of Washington, D.C. and Vicinity.  He served five years as Regional Vice President of the Eastern Region of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc.; and 16 years as secretary of the Baptist Convention of the District of Columbia and Vicinity.  He served 18 years as a Board Memeber of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc.; and 4 years as the president of the Baptist Convetion of the District of Columbia and Vicinity.
 
He is the pastor and organizer of the Holy Trinity United Baptist Church of Washington, D.C., which he organized on the third Sunday of November 1985.  Pastor Gilbert is married to Eva Lee of Sumter, SC.  He is the father of Lisa Gilbert, and Rev. George C. Gilbert, Jr., and the grandfather of 4 grandchildren, Jeremy, Xavier, Demarco, and Kennedie.
